Humility. Why humility is a key element of a life without regret

Tom Hiddleston

Stay hungry, stay young, stay foolish, stay curious, and above all, stay humble because just when you think you’ve got all the answers, is the moment when some bitter twist of fate in the universe will remind you that you very much don’t.” ~ Tom Hiddleston

When you’re humble, life keeps teaching you. When you’re proud, it stops bothering. The problem with thinking you’re already right, is nothing you experience can teach you anything new. And this is critical if you want to progress. Remaining humble keeps you teachable.

People with big egos stay stuck. They think they already know it all, so they don’t bother to listen and they stop growing. They become poorer and poorer becausr they never learn new lessons.

Everyone you meet, no matter how stupid they might seem, has something to teach you. The important thing is that you stay open minded and humble enough to receive the lessons. Never ever fool yourself into believing you’re better than anyone. All it does is make you look like an idiot and… well… it makes you an idiot.

Someone might seem messy, or nervous, or even stupid when you meet them. But that is never a reason to judge them poorly. Consider that some of the world’s most intellgent people are intellectually very skilled, but struggle with social nuances.

When you enter into conversations, never go in believing you know better than those you’re talking to. Go in prepared to learn and listen with respect. Always listen to everyone with respect no matter who they are.

“Being wrong is not a sin. Failing to correct error is.” ~ Karl Popper

Humility teaches you self-correction, which enables progress
Admitting mistakes early prevents small errors from becoming lifelong regrets.
Most damage comes from doubling down, not from being wrong once.

“Empathy grows when we are humble enough to admit we don’t fully understand another’s experience.” ~ Brené Brown, PhD

Humility teaches you empathy, which enables strong relationships
Dropping ego creates space to truly understand others.
Connection requires equality, not dominance.
