Simple advice.
Surprisingly difficult to follow.
Most people do not die once. They die a thousand times in all the moments of indifference.
Distraction.
Time wasted in hatred, anger or sadness.
A hundred stupid things stealing attention from the few things that actually mattered. Stealing our lives. Killing is slowly with distractions.
Life has a way of making the unimportant feel urgent.
The news feels urgent.
The funny videos feel urgent.
The opinion of a stranger feels urgent.
Meanwhile the important things sit in the corner waiting to be noticed…
Your health.
Your family.
Your dreams.
Your purpose.
The book you want to write.
The business you want to build.
The life you keep saying you want.
The important things rarely shout.
That is why they are so easy to neglect.
Most people imagine they will eventually find more time.
More time for family.
More time for health.
More time for dreams.
More time for what matters.
Time does not usually work like that.
Life fills the space available.
If you do not deliberately make room for what matters, everything else will gladly occupy the space.
One year becomes another.
One decade becomes another.
And eventually a person can wake up and realize they have become very efficient at things that were never important.
That is a painful realization.
To discover you climbed the ladder successfully only to find it was leaning against the wrong wall.
The older you get, the clearer certain truths become.
No one wishes they had spent more time watching videos on their phones.
No one wishes they had spent more of their life being distracted.
People wish they had spent more time with people they loved.
More time pursuing meaningful work.
More time creating their dreams.
More time living according to their values.
The difficulty is that these truths are obvious in hindsight and easy to ignore in the present.
That is why attention is one of the most valuable things you possess.
Your attention becomes your days.
Your days become your years.
Your years become your life.
Where attention goes, life follows.
So choose carefully.
Protect your focus.
Protect your time.
Protect your energy.
Ask yourself often:
“What actually matters here?”
Then have the courage to build your days around the answer.
Because life is not determined by what we say is important.
It is determined by what we repeatedly give our attention to.
And in the end, our lives become the sum of whatever received our focus.
Choose wisely.
