Miyamoto Musashi

Think lightly of yourself and deeply of the world. Never be jealous. Do not hold on to possessions you no longer need. Do not, under any circumstances, depend on a partial feeling.” ~ Miyamoto Musashi

If you want to live well, simplify.

Always tell the truth.

Always keep your word. To others. And to yourself.

If you say you’ll do something, do it. Otherwise don’t say it.

Choose your values before the world chooses them for you.

Decide what you care about most and make sure your time is spent on it.

You are what you do, not what you say you’ll do.

Own fewer things, but choose them well.

Don’t try to impress people.

Meet many people, but be selective about which ones become your friends.

The people you spend time with will influence your life.

Walk away from negative people. You life is too short.

Be completely honest about your mnistakes.

Then use them to become better.

Don’t allow ego to shroud your judgement.

Do not spend today punishing yourself for yesterday.

Do not envy another person’s life.

Build your own.

Protect your attention today.

Your days become your years.

Your years become your life.

Which brings us to today’s lesson.

Make your life deliberate.

Decide what matters.

Give it your time.

Decide who you want to be.

Be that person today.

Remove what makes you smaller.

Keep what makes you stronger, kinder, wiser and more alive.

Love people while they are here.

Do work you are proud to put your name on.

Leave places better than you found them.

And every so often, stop.

Look around.

Remember that none of this lasts forever.

Then ask yourself one question:

If this were the way I lived every day, would I be proud of the life it became?

If the answer is no, change something.

If the answer is yes, keep going.

A great life is not built from one extraordinary decision.

It is built from ordinary decisions made so well, so consistently, that eventually they become an extraordinary life.
