Happiness

Henry David Thoreau

Happiness is like a butterfly, the more you chase it, the more it will evade you, but if you notice the other things around you, it will gently come and sit on your shoulder.” ~ Henry David Thoreau

Happiness is not a destination.

It something that appears while you’re too busy paying attention to something you care about…

While you are helping someone.

When you’re making the world around you a little brighter.

Which brings us to today’s lesson.

Be someone that makes the world around them easier just for being there.

That’s where you’ll find happiness.

In giving.

The more you give, the more you receive.

Not in money. Or recognition. Or anything you can hold in your hands.

But in something far more valuable.

The knowledge that someone’s life is better because you are part of it.

That you helped someone believe in themselves.

That you made a difficult day easier.

That you gave someone a reason to laugh when they needed it most.

And perhaps that is one of life’s greatest discoveries.

The surest way to make your own life feel worthwhile is to make life more worthwhile for someone else.

So give everything you’ve got to the things you care about.

And when you sleep, you’ll sleep soundly and peacefully.

The water will taste sweeter.

And you’ll discover that the greatest reward for making the world a better place is how it feels to be alive in it.
