Activity Description:

This isn’t your average scavenger hunt! In this version, kids race to find natural treasures, complete mini challenges, and unlock mystery clues along the way. It’s a blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and adventure, with nature as the game board.

How to Do It:

1. Prepare a Scavenger List with Challenges

Include a mix of items to find and tasks to do, such as:

  • A leaf with three points
  • Something that smells nice
  • A rock shaped like an animal
  • Build a tiny shelter out of sticks
  • Do a 10-second animal impression
  • Draw something you see in the sky
  • Find two things that feel very different

2. Add Mystery Clues or Riddles

  • Hide small scrolls or cards with nature riddles or jokes under rocks or tied to branches.
  • Each clue can lead to the next item or challenge—like a nature treasure trail.
  • Example riddle: “I stand tall and green, my arms sway above—find me and search near where birds like to shove.” (Answer: a tree!)

3. Create a Time Limit or Race Option

  • Set a timer (e.g., 30–60 minutes) and see how much kids can find.
  • Or let kids team up and race to complete all items first.
  • Award small badges, stickers, or nature medals for effort, not just winning.

4. Encourage Creativity and Observation

  • Let kids sketch or take a photo of each item rather than picking everything up.
  • Add a “surprise bonus item” like “Find something no one else notices.”
  • Encourage quiet time too: one challenge can be “Sit silently and write what you hear.”

5. Finish with a Celebration

  • Share stories of what was hardest, funniest, or most surprising.
  • Create a “Hall of Discovery” by laying out interesting finds.
  • Ask: “What was your favorite item, and why?”

Bonus Tip:

Repeat the scavenger hunt in a different season and compare how the environment—and your list—changes!
