Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese diplomat stationed in Lithuania during World War II, defied his government by issuing thousands of visas to Jewish refugees, allowing them to escape the Holocaust. Despite orders from Tokyo, Sugihara worked tirelessly, writing visas by hand to save as many people as possible.
