If I could tell my younger self only one thing, I’d say: don’t waste your life trying to impress people. Find out what you believe, what you love, what you’re good at, and build your life around that.
If I had only one sentence, it might be this: become someone you can trust. Keep the promises you make to yourself. Tell the truth. Do difficult things when they need doing. Your relationship with yourself lasts rather longer than most others, so it’s worth making it a good one.
don’t be frightened of looking foolish. Looking foolish lasts minutes. Regret can be remarkably long-lived. Ask the question. Take the chance. Say what you feel. Attempt the thing you’re not yet good at. Most interesting lives contain a considerable amount of temporary embarrassment.
