The problem with comparison

irish man

I complained because I had no shoes until I met a man who had no feet.” ~ Irish saying

Life humbles everyone eventually.

At some point, every person discovers that time is limited.

That realization changes things.

Suddenly the things we were complaining about seem smaller.

The traffic.

The delayed train.

The tiny frustrations that consumed so much energy.

Not because our problems are not real.

But because perspective changes everything.

Which brings us to today’s lesson.

Be grateful before life forces you to be.

Appreciate your health while you have it.

Appreciate the ordinary day unfolding around you.

The warm bed.

The roof over your head.

The ability to walk outside and feel the sun on your face.

Do not wait until something is gone to discover its value.

One day, many of the things you currently take for granted will become things you miss.

The greatest treasures in life are often the things we stop noticing because they are there every day.

Until one day, they aren’t.

And that is when we finally understand how rich we were all along.
