Become worthy

How do you find a good spouse? The best single way to find a good spouse is to deserve a good spouse… To get what you want, you have to deserve what you want.” ~ Charlie Munger

People spend their lives asking:

“How do I become successful?”

“How do I find the right person?”

“How do I make great friends?”

“How do I build an extraordinary life?”

They’re good questions.

But they are often the wrong questions.

A better question is:

“What kind of person deserves those things?”

We tend to focus on what we want from life rather than who we need to become to receive it.

People want loyal friends while being unreliable themselves.

They want an honest partner while being dishonest with themselves.

They want an exceptional life while putting in ordinary effort.

Life has a funny way of reflecting us back to ourselves.

You attract opportunities when you become capable of using them well.

You build meaningful relationships when you become a meaningful person.

You earn trust when you become trustworthy.

The world is not perfectly fair, of course. Good things sometimes happen to bad people and bad things sometimes happen to good people.

But over a lifetime, character matters enormously.

The greatest investment you will ever make is not in stocks, property, or business.

It is in becoming the kind of person people admire, trust, and want to spend time with.

Which brings us to today’s lesson.

Stop asking only what you want from life.

Ask what life might reasonably expect from you first.

Want a loving relationship? Become a loving person.

Want success? Become useful.

Want respect? Become respectable.

Want a remarkable life? Become remarkable through your actions.

The beautiful thing about this philosophy is that it puts your future back into your own hands.

You cannot control who enters your life.

You cannot control every opportunity that comes your way.

But you can control the person staring back at you in the mirror every morning.

Become the kind of person worthy of the life you dream about.

And one day, you may discover that the things you spent years chasing quietly arrived while you were busy becoming the person capable of receiving them.
