Find what you love

Maya Angelou

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off you.” ~ Maya Angelou

People spend their entire working lives waiting for Friday.

And yet there are some people who gladly work all week and all weekend.

There’s an important lesson in that.

When people care deeply about something, they work hard and they do their best work.

That is an extraordinary advantage.

It’s something that every leader should understand.

Because the greatest achievements require people who actually care.

Imagine a world in which leaders inspired their teams to care deeply about important missions to make the world a better place.

And not just obsess over money.

When people really care about important work, they produce their best, they work hard and they achieve great results.

That’s what businesses want.

And people want to enjoy their work and love their jobs.

Inspiring people to care about important things might be the key to saving the world.

Which brings us to today’s lesson.

Find work you care about.

Something that uses your natural abilities.

Then find a way to make it useful to the world.

Something that people want.

Something that makes the world happier.

And remember this…

Money is useful.

But it’s a poor substitute for a reason to get out of bed, excited to start each day.

So follow your curiosity.

Find your obsession.

Give it your best.

And use it to do something worthwhile.

Because somewhere in the world there may be something extraordinary that will never exist unless you become interested enough to create it.

It’s up to you to find out what it is.
