Keep going

Always remember that you can have the worst days of your life and a few weeks later you can have the best day of your life. Don’t give up. Keep going.“ ~ Kristen Butler

There will be days when everything feels uncertain.

When plans you’ve spent years making suddenly fall apart.

When you lose something you thought would always be there.

When the future you imagined no longer seems possible.

And perhaps the hardest part is not knowing when things will get better.

But there is something extraordinary about life that we tend to forget during difficult times.

You cannot see the wonderful things that haven’t happened to you yet.

You cannot miss the people you haven’t met.

You cannot imagine the happiness of a moment you haven’t experienced.

You cannot know which ordinary conversation will change the direction of your life.

Or which unexpected opportunity will open a door you never knew existed.

Think about some of the happiest moments of your life so far.

How many of them could you have predicted?

How many arrived completely unexpectedly?

Perhaps you met someone who changed everything.

Perhaps something you thought was a disaster led you somewhere better.

Perhaps an ordinary day became one of the most memorable days of your life.

That’s the remarkable thing about being alive.

Your future contains possibilities that your present mind cannot even imagine.

Which brings us to today’s lesson.

Never mistake a difficult chapter for the whole story.

Rest when you need to.

Ask for help.

Learn what you can.

Change direction when you must.

But keep giving life a chance to surprise you.

Keep learning.

Keep meeting people.

Keep trying new things.

Keep finding reasons to be excited about tomorrow.

Because somewhere in your future, there may be a day when you find yourself laughing so hard you cannot speak.

Surrounded by people you love.

Doing something you once thought was impossible.

And for a moment, you’ll remember these difficult days.

You’ll remember how uncertain everything felt.

How little you knew about what was coming.

And you’ll wish you could go back and tell yourself just how much there was still to look forward to.

One day, you may be living a life you’re enormously grateful you didn’t give up on.

You cannot know that day yet.

But you owe yourself the chance to experience it.

Keep going.
