Use what you know now

Maya Angelou

Forgive yourself for what you didn’t know before you knew it. You cannot judge your past self by the standards of the person you are today. That version of you did the best they could with the tools they had; your job now is to use your new tools to build something better.” ~ Maya…

Sometimes in life you have a revelation.

You finally understand what matters most.

And with it comes grief for the time you wasted not knowing what you know now.

But regret is not wisdom…

The past has already done its job.

It brought you here.

To this understanding.

This moment.

Which brought you to today’s lesson.

Do not let regret sabotage today.

Use it to light today.

Let it be the fuel that drives you.

That makes you better.

Let this be the dividing line.

Because there is a strange mercy in being alive:

You can think you wasted twenty years only to realize it made the next ten twice as beautiful.

You can spend half your life asleep only to become twice as awake.

And perhaps that is all a new beginning really is.

Not a different past.

Not a perfect plan.

Just one moment when you finally stop asking,

“Why didn’t I live this way before?”

And start saying,

“I know now.”

Then live accordingly.

Let the revelations you’ve had before be a lesson for your future:

If there is anything in your life you already know you should change…

Anything you already know you should say…

Anything you already know you should begin…

Then perhaps this is the moment you stop waiting for another sign.

Your old life does not need another explanation.

Your new life needs a first decision.

The person you want to become is not waiting in some distant future.

They are being created in the choices you make today.
